Those of you who read my blogs know I rarely read one book by an author. Rather, I look for series with interesting characters who develop over time. That describes the Jane Whitefield series very well. Thomas Perry is an accomplished author with many awards for his thriller and suspense books, but my favorites are the Whitefield books. Jane Whitefield is part Native American, (full-blooded Seneca until her iron-working father met and married her mother) living in upstate New York. (This is a repeat of an earlier blog from 2008. Some of these books just came over my desk to be checked and I was going to write a review when I faintly remembered writing one before. Not enough people know about the series, so I thought I'd repeat it).
If you love books or collect them, you'll find the Bookman series by John Dunning fascinating and very entertaining. They are mysteries, starring Cliff Janeway, cop turned bookman and bookshop owner. A bookman is a person who engages in buying and selling books or a person who loves books; a collector.
During our September meeting we started discussing Breath of Snow and Ashes, by Diana Gabaldon. During our October meeting we will be discussing the second half of the book in the continuing saga of Jamie and Clare Fraser. We will meet on Monday, October 10 at 6:00 pm in the McIntyre Room.
