Readers challenge

A few weeks ago, I ran across a blog that set up a “challenge” I was too late to get on the challenge, but it sounded like fun so I thought we could try it here.

Participants pick 5 books that they would recommend to someone else, that you identified with or that tell something about you. You may but don’t have to tell us why you chose a book for your list. It can be any reading level. Then you pick 5 books from other people’s lists to read.

Pick your 5 recommendations and post on the forums by September 15, 2007. Then you can pick from other’s list, read those and post your reviews.

I will start with my 5 recommendations in no particular order

Joyce's Picks.

To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, Set in the south in the 1930’s, about widowed lawyer, Atticus Finch, and his two young children.

Charlotte’s Web, by E.B. White. About a pig, a spider and friendship.
Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy- A great story teller and his descriptions are magnificent.

Outer Banks by Anne Rivers Siddons- about friends spending the summer in North Carolina.

Exodus by Leon Uris about the Jewish refugees, moving to Palestine after World War II.

The Giver by Lois Lowry. I read very little science fiction but this stuck with me for a long time.

What are your recommendations? Come back in a few weeks, see what others have recommended and pick 5 you want to read.

Little Acorn's recommendations are:

Mutant Message Down Under by Marlo Morgan (on my "required reading list for all of humanity")

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn (on my "required reading list for all of humanity")

The Story of B by Daniel Quinn (on my "required reading list for all of humanity")

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom (on my "required reading list for all of humanity")

Lamb:  The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore (the funniest book EVER...I couldn't have my WHOLE list be serious and life changing after all!)

I hope lots of other people join this so there is lots of books to pick from!
