DVD review: Priest

Most people think Priest is a horror movie.  If I had known that, I wouldn't have watched it.  But it really isn't.  Yes, it's a dark vampire movie, but it just isn't scary enough to be horror.  It's a dark dystopian setting in an alternate reality where mankind has fought Vampire Wars for millenia, until now vamps are on reservations, the world is practically destroyed, and people live in huge cities ruled by the Church. To obey the church is to obey God, they tell everyone constantly, everywhere.
Meanwhile, out on the range, er, plains, people are trying to start over, to cultivate crops on farms.  Here comes the Old West with Vampires. Leather vests are in style again!
The Vamps have kidnapped a young girl. Riding to the rescue on a super-fast machine comes one of the discarded, reject Warrior Priests. He is also super-fast, skilled and rebelling against the command of the Church.
This movie is all over the place and really isn't much of anything, as reviews have noted. It passes the time...~Tessa Eger        2 out of 5 stars
