Historic Pictures

We have just finished loading the last of the Historic pictures onto the web page.  There are now a total of 586 photographs.  

To view the pictures

  • Click on “Library Resources” (the right hand column)
  • Then click “Browse the Photo Collection”  

The photos are grouped into “albums:” Bands, People, Old Area Buildings, Horse and Buggy, Police and Fire Departments, Railroads, Parades, Parks, Water Areas and Misc.

Or click this link to take you directly to the gallery page. 

You can then, 

  • Click on the “Album Cover” (the picture beside each description).  
  • Click on the picture to enlarge it. 
  • View a sideshow of that album

Or you can search the gallery using the search field on the left of the screen or by clicking on "Search the site" at the top of the page.

Then click gallery and enter a key word, such as lake, or horse, or Ella Sharp.  

You can then add a comment, in the comment area, if you know any of the background of the pictures, or can identify a person in the pictures or location, or even how “cute” it is.

NEW - If you have any historic photos of the Jackson area you would like to have included in this archive. You can do so by the following ways:

  • Navigate to the picture album you want to upload a picture to. Then on the left side of the page click "Add Item". Browse to your image, fill in as much information as you know about the picture then select the"Add Items" button.
  • Contact Jackson District Library, Reference Department, 244 W. Michigan Ave. Jackson, Mi 49201 (517)-788-4087 ext 234.  
  • E-mail them at  reference@myjdl.com

    If you are e-mailing the picture, please include all pertinent information, who is in the picture, what it is, where it is and when it was taken.
