The June meeting of the Jane Austen Book Club was great fun as we discussed the varied world of "fan-fiction", published and non-published. Thousands of books have been written about the characters first introduced by Jane - some wonderful, some not so great. Our three graduating Seniors were congratulated and each presented with a Jane Austen Action Figure to take off to college with them. Strawberries and cream, chicken salad on mini-croissants, scones with lemon curd, and a lovely Fontina cheese tempted our palates along with several pots of tea.
Next month, on July 14th,we will be discussing Sanditon and The Watsons, JA's two unfinished novels. Although we don't have them at JDL you can find them fairly cheaply on Amazon.com. Here's a link - Just click on it and you can find new and fairly new copies for around $2-$3.
Please feel free to join us even if you haven't read the books. Our discussions are wide ranging and cover a wide variety of Austen-related topics. As Anne Elliott says in Persuasion, "My idea of good company, Mr. Elliot, is the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation; that is what I call good company." We can promise you good company at the Jane Austen Book Club on July 14th at 5:00 pm (summer hours.)
