Nobody told me Pacific Rim was a Godzilla remake. Seriously, that is exactly what it reminds me of! The monsters trample various corners of the globe, mostly Hong Kong, while humanity does stupid stuff, like cry and scream before running away. The creatures look like various renditions of Godzilla and Rodan—of course, all of them are Kaiju! That is what the movie calls them, and what Godzilla and Rodan were called, so any real fan of these Japanese icons already knew this and wasn’t surprised. For me, not really a fan of those monster films, it was a surprise.
I don’t hate Godzilla movies, I just have to be in the mood for the silly dramatics and poor plotting. This film had the same feel to it—lots of emotional acting and poor decisions and illogical science. Even more scary, loud screams from the creatures and destruction of big cities. And don’t forget that the main characters have to get bloody noses often, just to show how very dangerous and sick-making these alien invaders are! Watch for great special effects, action and humor, ignore the defects. Now you know. ~ Tessa 2.5 out of 5 December 2013
