From Pulitzer Prize-winner Katherine Boo, a landmark work of narrative nonfiction that tells the dramatic and sometimes heartbreaking story of families striving toward a better life in one of the twenty-first century’s great, unequal cities.
My Thoughts:
I was not sure if I would like it but I had to take a test read with all the hype I was hearing and I finished the book.
I think that Katherine Boo did a wonderful job telling this story. I learned a lot about India, Mumbai and the undercity life there. I have limited knowledge of Indian culture and lifestyle but was able to learn some here. By the end of the book I had really connected with the characters. It just seems Annawadians never get a break or can get ahead. The Husain family had to suffer because of a lie, not truth. Very sad that it is really that way in so many places. To understand what I am talking about you will have to read the book. ![]()
I give this title 4 stars.
