Jane Austen Book Club meets Monday at 6 pm

Next Monday, February 11th at 6:00 pm, the Jane Austen Book Club meets in the MacIntyre room in the Carnegie Building, 244 W. Michigan Ave.  We have lots to talk about, especially last Sunday's Austen biopic on Masterpiece Classics.

The '60s

A friend just sent me a link to a cool video about the sixties, that I thought I would share with all of you.

So, I started thinking, could be dangerous I know.

Henrietta's Knitting Group

Henrietta's Knitting Group meets every Wednesday at 1:00 PM.  We all have different interests and skill levels, but all share the same love for yarn.  My personal goal is to finally knit myself a sweater that fits! We all have a number of projects in the works, some for family members, and some for charities. Eveyone is welcome, so bring your current project and join us for a fun filled hour...or just bring yourself and we'll teach you how to knit!

Mansfield Park - An Interesting Version

This past Sunday saw another new version of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park introduced.  Reviews are mixed due to the appalling lack of dialogue written by Miss Austen herself!  That said, this version (MP3) did at least follow the plot of the novel unlike MP2.  I found myself missing the gorgeous scenery from MP2.  At least the hero, played by Blake Ritson, was good to look at!  Check out the cast pictures and plot synopsis at the Masterpiece

Not a make-do life!

During these weeks of cold, snow and ice, indoor projects are a great option.  Young or old, male or female, there is a hobby out there for everyone.

These days, men are getting in on more and more of the traditional crafts—for instance, there is a new release called Knitting with balls: a hands-on guide to knitting for the modern man by Michael DelVecchio, 2006. Also suggested for the male types (but good for females, too) is The boy mechanic makes toys: 159 games, toys, tricks, and other amusements, 2006.
